Makenzie's Story

Hi, I’m Makenzie Franklin, I’m 28 years old. I have been an above the knee amputee since 2020. I was in a motorcycle accident with my now fiancé in September of 2020 which resulted in me eventually having an above the knee amputation. After a good two-and-a-half weeks of trying to save the leg, I decided that my leg was just something in the way of the rest of my life that I had to live now. I have since done a lot of crazy things because I realized that life is super short and you really need to just do the things you say you’re going to do. I’ve made the USA Sitting Volleyball team. I just got back from Equador climbing to 17,000 feet on Mt. Cayambe with a wonderful group. I just got so excited to still be alive and to be able to do this.
We want to thank Makenzie for sharing her personal story of incredible human strength and celebrate her fearless tenacity.
